Before you roll your eyes, this is for real, and it comes recommended by a Business School, Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario Canada. (And you thought those Canadians were such nice people.) Professor Lindie Liang, who suggested this revenge witchcraft, based the academic study on the idea that people in a bad job situation want to lash out at the boss but can’t without getting fired. So, why not take out their anger on an inanimate object, like a voodoo doll? Liang says, “We found a simple and harmless symbolic act of retaliation can make people feel like they’re getting even and restoring their sense of fairness.” No suggestion here of turning the other cheek, going the second mile, or a “soft answer” turning away “wrath” (Proverbs 15:1). Voodoo isn’t “harmless” and its power in places like Haiti isn’t based on “symbolism.” Black magic is real and those who practice such dark arts against others will quickly learn such evil has a boomerang effect. Cursing others is cursing yourself. Needling that bad boss will put a pin-prick of suffering in your own life. Proverbs 29:1 says, ”Don’t plot evil against your neighbor” and Proverbs 25:1 says “he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” The path to success in life is in blessing not cursing. |
| An encouraging word: RESIST THE DEVIL “Resist the devil and he will flee from you, “James 4:7 promises. For most Christians, that resistance is pathetically passive. As for rebuking Satan, that ideal is foreign in nearly all American pulpits. I’ve put it this way: “The devil doesn’t go until you tell him to go!” RESIST is an active verb requiring decision and determination. Don’t think the devil will leave you alone just because you’re a Christian. He won’t depart from his attacks and influence until you give him the order to leave you alone!
