There are some things a demon can’t make you do no matter how possessed by them you may be. To those who are tormented and not yet delivered, I want to offer hope. If you are under some kind of demonic attack, it will be helpful to know the limitations of Satan. No matter what the devil does, you can say, “This far and no further!”
If you are a Christian, here are four things the devil can’t do to you.
1) The devil can’t steal your salvation.
2) The devil can’t force you to sin.
3) The devil can’t take you to hell.
4) The devil can’t kill you.
1) THE DEVIL CAN’T STEAL YOUR SALVATION. Of those who are saved, John 10:28 declares, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” The devil can’t suddenly force you away from God into unbelief and spiritual rebellion. You may fall away from God for a time, but not because the devil forced you to.
2) THE DEVIL CAN’T FORCE YOU TO SIN. James 1:14 says, “Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” The devil didn’t make you do it. He has no power to mandate that you indulge in evil or else. The Bible consistently teaches that all sinful behavior results from an act of choice by the compromised human will. First Corinthians 10:13 gives the promise that, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
3) THE DEVIL CAN’T TAKE YOU TO HELL. Anyone who suffers eternal punishment in hell is there because of their own willful rebellion against God. It is Christ who declared in Matthew 25:41, “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” The judgement of eternal perdition is reserved alone to God.
4) THE DEVIL CAN’T KILL YOU. In Deuteronomy 30:19 Jehovah-God decrees, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death. Don’t let the devil trick you into thinking that some evil infraction in your life caused you to commit the unpardonable sin. Many Christians stressed by life’s pressures come to think that. But Satan has no power to take your life nor to lay claim to you eternally if your desire it to make things right with the Lord.
In times of doubt and discouragement. When the consequences of past sins overwhelm you. When it seems as if all has gone wrong and God has abandoned you, remember these 4 things and the scriptures which support these truths. Satan is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44). The devil can’t do to you what he threatens, and the Lord will never forsake you.
