I address my following remarks to those of you who do deliverance and sincerely want to please God in doing so. You have a heart to see the captives set free but here are a couple of common mistakes that are made. Stop doing these things during deliverance.

MISTAKE #1—CONFUSING FORGIVENESS OF SIN WITH DELIVERANCE FROM DEMONS.

Being saved is different from being delivered. Leading someone to Christ doesn’t cast out their demons. Demons leaving because somebody got saved is rare. I won’t say it’s impossible just improbable. Deliverance is a separate process after salvation (Mark 16:15-18). I have cast demons from people – baptized confessing Christians active in ministry and producing spiritual results through the anointing of Christ. Their sins were forgiven, but the demonic strongholds and legal rights of their demons were never identified. If you get involved in deliverance ministry, stop doing deliverance with the idea that the demonized person needs to get saved all over again. If demons manifest, then lay aside your prejudices about Christians who have demons and get on with the business of setting God’s people free.

MISTAKE #2 – BREAKING CURSES BUT NOT DEALING WITH THE DEMONS WHO ENTERED BECAUSE OF THE CURSES.

I’m amazed that some people who minister deliverance believe that breaking curses will cause demons to go. But let me say what I’ve said thousands of times: most demons don’t go until they are made to go. By all means break curses. Bob Larson University spends a lot of time talking about curses. Our XDUNAMIS streaming platform has many curse breaking videos. By canceling the imprecations of one’s past there will be a great deal of relief. But the strongest demons attached to the strongest curses may still hang on until exorcised. Don’t do deliverance by just leading people through curse-breaking without spiritually making an effort to force some kind of demonic manifestation.

MISTAKE #3 – FOLLOWING THE MYTH OF MASS DELIVERANCE

Mass deliverance has a place when there are large crowds and inadequate numbers of people to minister to individuals on a one-to-one basis. In my seminars I sometimes lead the audience in curse-breaking prayer. Demons manifest. Some individuals receive a measure of freedom. However, mass deliverance can be used as an excuse to avoid the harder work of dealing directly with people individually. My decades of experience have shown me these people will end up seeking out someone like me. Thank God for those who have received relief during times of mass deliverance, but it should be the exception and not the rule. The myth is that mass deliverance works. The reality: Effective deliverance takes place in direct personal ministry where true healing and freedom are possible.
