As an exorcist I have spent a lifetime interacting with evil spirits. I’ve heard what they say and seen what they do. Most demonic actions are predictable – profane, violent, stubborn, beguiling, hateful, deceptive, and implacably evil. But I’ve also witnessed odd, strange behavior that defies logic and reason. Weird ways you can get demons.
If you think what I’m about to present is too strange to believe, the Bible is full of odd accounts of the human condition. King Nebuchadnezzar who arrogantly opposed God and lived like an animal for seven years (Daniel 4:33). The demoniac with Legion demons (Mark 5). King Saul summoning David to play the harp to alleviate the torment of evil demons (1 Samuel 16). Even Balam, a prophet of God bought off to curse God’s people, but supernaturally unable to do so because of a talking donkey (Numbers 22). We shouldn’t be surprised that demons can also act in peculiar ways.
WHY DEMONS HIDE BEHIND STRANGENESS
Since most demonic possession takes place without the victim realizing it, the question must naturally be raised — why would demons choose weird ways for possession? Here’s why. The more we don’t know about the tactics of demons, the more cleverly they can hide. This is one of the reasons it’s necessary to interrogate demons. Guessing or claiming supernatural knowledge about how and why a demon entered is open to error. But when the demon is confronted and demanded under penalty of divine judgment to tell how they got there, the legal right, is more quickly and easily canceled.
WATCH FOR THESE CLUES
The most effective demonization takes place when the method of entry is incredulous and unwary. The inexperienced deliverance minister might think that a certain legal right of entry is impossible because it’s so illogical. For example, a demon says he is there because of an obscure soul tie that the victim had with a psychic some years ago. Or a specific event in antiquity that was morally egregious, and tied to the host through a forbearer. Even a direct bloodline link of the host to an ancestor passing through many centuries. The untrained minister might think the demon is lying and rebuke the evil spirit for spreading a falsehood.
