UKRAINE MISSION REPORT #1, AUGUST 2014: The whole world is watching the tragedy that has unfolded in eastern Ukraine; the shooting down of a Malaysian airliner, war waged in the beautiful city of Donetsk (I’ve been there.), and fear of a full-scale Russian invasion. There’s even more to this story that I’ve learned in the little time since I arrived here. There is much that the U. S. press isn’t telling: Christians targeted by Russian rebels for kidnapping and torture; church members forced into slave labor by the rebels or be killed; Pastors and entire churches fleeing to cities in western Ukraine; a massive relief effort, not by Russian “humanitarian trucks,” but by churches taking in refugees from the war zone to feed and shelter them. But the seeds of this go way back to Communist Russia.
The first day of sessions at the Ukrainian School of Exorcism I taught for 5 hours and then came back for an evening public rally. Out of the hundreds there, the Lord led me to a woman on the front row, Anastasia. The demons first said that Death was the chief. But I knew the look of Jezebel. I finally uncovered the truth. Three generations ago in Soviet Russia, Anastasia’s ancestors were Christians. They were persecuted by the Communists because of their faith in Christ. The women were raped and murdered; thus the door was opened for Jezebel (by rape) and Death (by murder). We also learned that Anastasia had been sexually violated, just as her ancestors had been. Because the Christ-hating curse was broken, her seven-year-old daughter can now live a life free of demons, delivered from this inherited evil of a godless, murderous regime of evil. An encouraging word: PRAY FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS Paul told Timothy (1 Timothy 3:12), “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Christians in America don’t realize what that means. Yes, we are sometimes persecuted but not unto death, as happens to many Christians in other lands. I’ve met Christians in other countries who have been tortured and lost loved one because of real, life-threatening opposition to their faith. American followers of Christ need to stop feeling sorry for themselves when things don’t go their way and instead get on their knee and pray for truly persecuted Christians around the world.
